The Wednesday Arts Club takes place at Eastport United Methodist Church and the Tuesday Afternoon Learning Experience (TALE) takes place on-site in Eastport public housing and serves 20 Title I elementary school youth per week. Both programs base activities on the National Common Core Arts Standards and Anne Arundel County Public Schools Outcomes and Standards.
Activities are centered on weekly themes such as friendship, community, respect, Black History, and making good decisions.
Along with snacks and homework help, other activities may include crafting, reading centers, STEM projects, puzzles, drawing and games. We are also partnering with Hammond-Harwood House to make six visits with our afterschool students to historical homes to learn how African-Americans lived in the 18th and 19th centuries, their cultural footprint, as well as to study portraiture and architecture.
